The Roman emperor Trajan created agro-food depots in Pommiers at the beginning of the 9th century; the monks of Nantua founded there a monastery which passed in 960 under the dependence of Cluny and was to become one of the most important priories of the order. A rich past, various monuments, Benedictine church of the XIth century, monastery with priory hotel, cloister and monastery building, fortified enclosure, bridge over the Aix.


Écopole du Forez: Located on the left bank of the Loire between Feurs and Montrond-les-Bains, the reserve covers 750 ha. It is made up of old gravel pits that have been ecologically renovated. You can discover the flora and fauna on a 12 km trail. Bird stalks have been set up to admire birds in their natural habitat. More than 200 different bird species have been seen.


Castle of the XIIth century transformed at the end of the XVIth century, surrounded by deep ditches. Inside there is an impressive series of furnished rooms. The walls and ceilings are decorated with painted motifs dating from the 17th century.


This rock, which has become an island on Lake Villerest since its creation, is connected to the right bank of the lake only by the historical dyke built around 1711 on the orders of King Louis XVI between the bank and the 13th-century castle.


The water sports stadium, open all year round, offers two heated pools including its Olympic swimming pool and a children's wading pool. Swimming lessons and supervision are provided by qualified lifeguards and trainers. The beaches are completed by a vast park of shaded greenery, with games for adults and children (ping-pong, volleyball, swings).


An ancient medieval city founded by the Benedictine monks of Cluny from the year 1000. We visit the 11th and 16th-century Romanesque church (justice room and prison). To see: the Renaissance pavilion of Praireux; the chapels Saint-Marc des Odiberts.


This magnificent residence was built in the 14th century. This is where Honoré d' Urfé wrote "l' Astrée", the first river novel of French literature. The castle offers a remarkable setting. Around the castle the gardens and the rotunda.


Hat museum: located in an area of 1500 m 2 in an old hat shop. Presentation of fashion from 1850 to the present day. Guided tour with videos, workshops, machines in operation.


This feudal dwelling was established in the 11th century. Only the ruins remain of this period, standing on a rock at the confluence of two small rivers: Cotayet and Chavaron.


The Montverdun site is a volcanic formation. The church is Xlle. The Benedictine priory, whose fortified outer wall forms the enclosure wall, with a gallery giving access to the praying dwelling.


It is thanks to the growing renown of its mineral water that since the XIXth century Saint-Gammier is known throughout the world. To see:

Ville Fleurie Montbrison is a city steeped in history. The collegiate church of Notre-Dame is one of the most beautiful churches in the whole region. Founded by Count Guy IV of Forez, this gothic church dates from the 11th and 10th centuries. To see:

  • The Calvary on a hill where the castle stood - The Diane's heraldic hall
  • The quays of the Vizézy


Built in 1173, rebuilt in 1302, it remains intact until 1793, when the bands of Javogues burned it down and left it in ruins. This magnificent renovated medieval castle also has a museum.
Every two years the first weekend of August is a great medieval festival.


The Forez story told on a 1/20th scale. Across 10 hectares, a path leads you to the discovery of a natural park. Throughout this walk, miniature reproductions on a 1/20th scale of the most exceptional historical monuments of the Forézienne region await you.


The priory of Saint-Romain-Le-Puy is one of the most prestigious of the Forézien Romanesque art. The construction of the monastery observes 3 main phases, from the 10th to the 15th century. Next to the priory church are the ruins of the cloister and the county castle, bordered by vegetation.


Couzan remains, despite its ruin, a remarkable monument to the military architecture of feudalism.
